Richard Gere was born on August 31, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He spent his childhood in the city where he was born again with three sisters. After graduating from high school at the age of 18, he went to Boston to study at the University and studied philosophy as a scholarship. However, he left before he could finish his school and turned to acting as his dream vocation.

Although he started his acting career in the 1970s, he lived his real fame in the early 1980s. In 1982 he was recognized worldwide for his acting ”Officer and gentleman” with Debra winger. In 1990, he played Edward's character in a romantic comedy, ”a special woman”, who was very popular at the box-office. Richard Gere, who previously had a production experience and was named ”the sexiest man alive” by People magazine in 1999, had a four-year reunion with Cindy Crawford, the famous model.
